Embracing Freedom⚔🌍
Reflections on Liberation Day & Sustainable Living in Bulgaria
Today, I want to extend a happy Liberation Day to all of my Bulgarian friends who celebrate it. Liberation Day commemorates Bulgaria's freedom from Ottoman rule, although the appropriateness to celebrate this event in our modern world remains a topic of debate.
I delve into the significance of Liberation Day and share my personal perspective as someone who now calls Bulgaria home. While some may question celebrating liberation by one oppressive regime from another, I believe that any form of freedom is worth acknowledging and cherishing.
Reflecting on history, I highlight the transition from Ottoman to Russian rule in the 1800s and how, despite its complexities, it marked a significant improvement for Bulgaria at the time. I invite Bulgarian viewers to share their thoughts and perspectives on this important historical event in the comments below.
Furthermore, I address the dangers of cancel culture and the importance of acknowledging and learning from our history, regardless of its complexities or discomforts. By erasing history, we risk repeating past mistakes and denying future generations the opportunity to learn and grow.
Moving on from the historical discourse, I dive into the practicalities of gardening amidst unpredictable weather. While intending to start planting seeds outdoors, the inclement weather prompts an indoor recording session instead. I share my method of creating homemade fertilizer from organic waste, preparing for the upcoming gardening season.
Transitioning to personal updates, I introduce my canine companions, Wendy, Frankie and Frunza, and celebrate Wendy's progress in overcoming past trauma. Amidst settling into my new home in Bulgaria, I express gratitude for the completion of unpacking and the sense of calm it brings.
I also reflect on the therapeutic effects of maintaining a clean and organized living space, emphasizing the importance of self-care and mindfulness in daily life. Through the challenges and adjustments of relocating, I rediscover aspects of myself and look forward to fostering a sense of community in my new environment.
I extend an invitation to join me on my journey of sustainable living and community-building here in Bulgaria on my homestead in the small eco community I am building here. I believe in the power of collective action and shared experiences and look forward to living in community on this land.
