šæ One Woman & a Wild Dream
Reclaiming the Land in Rural Bulgaria
š¾ In todayās video, Iām sharing the latest on my 2,000m² property here in rural Bulgaria. After a long, cold winter and weeks of rain, spring has finally arrivedāand with it, the motivation to transform this land into something magical.
Join me as I walk through each of the three main terraces of the land, sharing my plans for off-grid gardening, sustainable landscaping, and building an eco retreat space and community for like-minded women over 50. Whether you're into permaculture, slow living, herbalism, or just love peaceful countryside life, this oneās for you.
šæ Terrace 1: Clover Meadow & Dog-Friendly Landscaping
At the top of the property, the grass has gone wild, but Iām replacing it with something betterāclover. It's hardy, low-maintenance, and a natural tick deterrent, making it perfect for dogs and summer heat. I explain why I chose clover over traditional grass and how Iām seeding it in small fenced sections to protect the area while it establishes.
š„ Terrace 2: No-Dig Garden on Clay Soil
The middle level is where the food will grow. With tough, clay-rich soil, Iām using a no-dig method, laying tarps to kill weeds, loosening the topsoil, and layering mulch made from cut grass. This will become a thriving garden for potatoes, onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. I also plan to add trellises and fencing to protect the crops from my playful pups.
š± Burdock: Natureās Gift
Iām keeping the wild burdock! While often seen as a weed, itās a powerful medicinal plant. Iāll harvest the seeds later in the year to make burdock flour and roasted burdock coffeeātwo DIY staples that support a self-reliant lifestyle.
š Future Outdoor Spa & Shower Area
Next to the old outhouse and an unused animal trough, Iām building an off-grid outdoor bathing space. Iāll convert the trough into a wood-fired hot tub and restore the outhouse into a functional shower. Itās more than just practicalāitās about creating a place for year-round wellness, rest, and future retreat use.
šø Terrace 3: Wild Foraging Meadow
The bottom terrace stays wild. About 80% of the plants here are edible or medicinal. Iām turning this space into a dedicated foraging area, cutting just one simple walking path and letting the rest remain untouched. From cleavers and cow parsley to wild mint and elderflowers, this land is alive with nourishment and healing.
š¬ Calling Women Over 50
Iām looking to build a small, intentional community for women over 50 who want to live closer to the land. Whether you're in Bulgaria or elsewhere in Europe (especially if you have legal residency or an EU passport), I'd love to connect. Together, we can grow food, hold retreats, and build a life rooted in nature, wisdom, and mutual support.
š Why This Matters
Relearning how to grow, forage, and live sustainably is a powerful form of freedom. Even if you never go fully off-grid, knowing how to care for yourself and the land is a valuable skillāespecially in uncertain times. If this video inspires you to start planting or pay attention to wild herbs, thatās already a win.
